Savage just passed away.
Word came up and in speaking about PaIN.
It’s like the body remembers growth. The muscles begin to speak, warning you that if you stop working, the growth of pain can enlarge itself because it needs to be fed by the challenges you once gave it with courage and compassion. The body and soul begin to move through transformation because they believe they can become better.
Think about butterflies coming out of the cocoon — people look at the butterfly and say, ‘Beautiful.’ Well shoot… they worked for that.
In the moment you begin to feel pain, breathe through the work, allowing awareness and life to flow through your veins, DNA, muscle memory, nerves, lower back, glutes, and the body you woke up with.
Somebody today said, ‘I can’t feel my legs,’ or ‘I don’t have legs.’ So honor the body you have, even while it struggles. If you hadn't been dancing for a while that's ok - new body sing new voice. Remember someone also said "I want YOUR LEGS."
That dedication will deepen your understanding of yourself, your voice, and your community in dance and in life. Love yourself how hard to work in that moment.
Take care of your wings the way a cat maintains its fur — with patience, instinct, and daily attention — but don’t forget to cough up the hairball. You might call it Good Pain- that's fine but keep stretching.
